David Christie - Paediatrician

Dr David Christie

Paediatrician

David undertook his medical degree at Monash University with postgraduate paediatric specialist training at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. He has worked in multiple paediatric units in Australia and the UK before moving to Albury-Wodonga in 2004. In addition to his work at AWPG, David is a senior Paediatrician in the Department of Paediatrics at Albury-Wodonga Health.

David has interests across a broad range of paediatrics including neonatology, acute care and developmental paediatrics.

David is a Conjoint Lecturer with the University of NSW and has a strong interest in training future doctors in paediatrics.

He believes that all children are unique and require individualised treatment plans. David works in tandem with GPs, allied health professionals and community groups, aiming to create the best treatment framework for each child.

David has a variety of interests outside paediatrics including playing the piano and karate.

David is a Specialist General Paediatrician. He obtained his qualification in 1991 at London University, and trained and worked as a General Paediatrician in the NHS before being recruited by Queensland Health in 2010.

He has been a Consultant since 2002 and has been working at AWPG for the past 7 years. He is a Senior lecturer at UNSW and is actively involved in teaching and training medical students.

Dr Newsom has helped develop our allergy clinic and introduce oral treatments for hay-fever. He also sees many children with behavioural, developmental and all other Paediatric problems. He aims to provide thorough assessment and helpful medical plans in a timely manner.

David loves living in Albury with his wife and three kids.

Smriti is a specialist Community developmental and general Paediatrician. She is the process of completing her MPH (Masters in Public Health).

She obtained her medical degree in India and completed her Paediatric training in Qld at Mater Children hospital , Qld Children hospital, Townsville, Tweed and Mackay Hospital.
She has worked in various regional centres and aims to work closely with allied health professionals, GPs, tertiary centres and community groups to provide the best treatment care for every child.

Outside work front, she enjoys long walks with her partner and her son.

Dr Ben FORBES

Paediatrician

Ben studied medicine at the University of Newcastle. He undertook the majority of his Paediatric speciality training in Brisbane, including the Queensland Children’s Hospital, and SEQ Neonatal Retrieval Service. He has an interest in working in rural and non-metropolitan areas, having worked for several years each in the Northern Territory, North Queensland and Mildura. As well as his work at AWPG, Ben is a hospital Paediatrician in Albury-Wodonga Health.

Ben moved to Albury in July 2023 but has already become involved in teaching UNSW medical students at the Albury Campus. Ben is interested in all areas of Paediatric medicine, including infant health and child development. He works with young people and families to prioritise individualised treatment goals, and develop plans to achieve them. He will advocate for access to best practice care for all patients.

Ben, his wife, two children and loyal dog are enjoying the alpine weather and are excited to build a life in the border community.
